Warning Devices to be Installed at Several Brown Co Crossings
01/28/2013

( KNZA )-Crossing arms and warning lights will be installed at several Brown County railroad crossings.

The Brown County Commission Monday signed an agreement with the Union Pacific Railroad and Kansas Department of Transportation for installation of the warning devices.

They will be installed at crossings on 260th Road between Kestrel and Kingman Roads; Falcon Road northeast of Morrill; and 120th Road near Everest.

Federal funding through KDOT will pay for the warning devices. Union Pacific will be the responsible for their installation and maintenance.

Train traffic through the area is expected to increase.

In other business, bids were opened for the purchase of various road tubes for the county’s three districts.

Three bids were received.

Commissioners accepted a bid from Metal Culverts of Jefferson City, Missouri in the amount of $26,073, even though it was 12-hundred dollars higher than the low bid submitted by Welborn Sales.

In making the motion, Commissioner Warren Ploeger noted it was due to the better quality of the riveted tubes provided by Metal Culverts.
