( KAIR )-Formal charges are pending against a 28-year-old man who allegedly pointed a gun at a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper during a traffic stop Monday in southwestern Jefferson County, then led the trooper on a chase.

Joshua Hance, whose address is unknown at this time, is being held in the Jefferson County Jail.

The Highway patrol says the pursuit began Monday afternoon after a trooper stopped a vehicle for speeding on K-24 Highway near Grantville

While the trooper was in his vehicle completing paperwork, the driver backed up his vehicle, and pointed a handgun at the trooper.

The suspect then took off at a high rate of speed.  The chase ended in the Oakland area of Topeka after the suspect ran into a patrol car that was blocking a street.

Officers took Hance and a female passenger into custody.  The Patrol says the passenger was later released after questioning, and will not be charged at this time.

After further investigation, it was determined the Pontiac Grand Prix they were in, was stolen.  A handgun was located beside the vehicle.

No officers were injured during the incident.
