( KNZA )-The Hiawatha Chamber of Commerce held their Annual Dinner Wednesday evening, which included the presentation of the Maple Leaf Awards for Business and Volunteer of the year.
Chamber Director Stacy Babb presented the “ Business of the Year” award to Billy the Squid, which is owned by Stephen Gilpin. Gilpin, who does the design work for the t-shirts sold by the business, says he enjoys creating the art, and then providing that to the community.
Babb presented the “ Volunteer of the Year” award to the group of volunteers who help organize the annual Jingle Bell Ride.
Jingle Bell Ride Chairwoman Patti Merchant and the other volunteers---Lana Reigle, Cheri Pavlish, and Heather Pilcher-- said the event wouldn’t be a success without the community support they receive.
Also recognized was outgoing Chamber President Gretchen Randall. Randall announced the new Chamber president is Jessica Burke; vice-president, Carrie Potter; treasurer, Angie Gilpin; and Babb serves as secretary.
Entertainment was provided by hypnotist Mike Reeves, who was back by popular demand.
