02/11/2013

(KAIR) -- The Atchison High School Science Department is seeking old, broken or unused cell phones in an effort to get funds to purchase lab materials.

According to Science Instructor Sarah Tschauder, it started last year, generating the department over 200 dollars.

What was a program exclusively at the high school last year, it’s now expanded with collection boxes for students and the public at each USD 409 school, the district office and the Highland Community College Technical Center Office.

Tschauder says recycling the phones has multiple positive effects.

The department is collecting the phones until the end of the school year.
