( KNZA )-There’s a vacancy on the Hiawatha USD 415 Board of Education.
The board of education Monday evening accepted the resignation of board member Becky Shamburg, effective today ( Tuesday ).
Shamburg's resignation follows her selection last month as the new director for Brown County Special Education Interlocal #615, which includes the Hiawatha and Horton School Districts. She will take over in July.
Shamburg had served on the Hiawatha school board since July 2003, holding position three which includes Ward 1 and 2 in the city of Hiawatha and all of Hiawatha Township north of 240th Street.
Board Clerk Leslie Grimm says a notice of the vacancy will be published in the Hiawatha World and the board will then have to wait 15 days before appointing someone to filling the remaining two years of her term. That is expected to take place at their regular meeting March 11th.
Following a closed-door session, the board voted to extend for one year the contracts of the district’s three principals--Tom Schmitz, David Coufal and Alan Jeffery--and Assistant High School Principal/Activities Director Andrew Gaddis through the 2013-2014 school year. Also extended for one year were the contracts of Mary Clary as Director of Food Service and Transportation, and Leslie Grimm as Director of Finance.
