Wind Farm Proposed in Southeast Nebraska
(KTNC) - A Florida company plans to build a major wind farm in southeast Nebraska.
New Era Energy Resources last week announced plans to build the 138-million dollar facility in Gage and Jefferson Counties.
Paul Dockery is the project manager for the proposed Steele Flats Wind Project. (play audio :11 “in Gage.”)
The wind farm would be located between Steele City and Odell just north of the border with Kansas. It would include 426-foot tall turbines that would be linked by underground cables and connected to Nebraska Public Power District’s Steele City substation.
Dockery says New Era Energy would employ five full-time workers. (play audio :16 “the turbines.”)
If leaders in both counties approve the project, the plan is to start construction in July, with completion by the end of the year. An informational open house on the project is planned for March 5th, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Diller Opera House.
