( KNZA )-A new scam is being reported in Brown County.
Sheriff John Merchant says his office is receiving a number of complaints from residents receiving notification letters in the mail from AE Outfitters of Orlando, Florida.
Merchant says the letters notify recipients that they have been denied credit or additional information is needed to complete a credit card application.
There is a 1-800 number to call that requests personal information such as social security numbers to finalize the application.
Merchant said residents who have brought the matter to the attention of law enforcement have stated they have not applied for any credit cards and are concerned as to why they are receiving these letters in the mail.
He urges residents not to give out any personal information on the phone and to report any suspicious activity to their local law enforcement agency.
