( KNZA )--The Brown County Commission today ( Monday ) accepted rock bids for a road improvement project in Hamlin Township that will allow for the expansion of two businesses.
The commission accepted the low bid from Stirton Brothers Trucking of Horton for 4-thousand tons of AB3 rock for $15.48 a ton and low bid from Hamm Quarries for 480 tons of ½- inch washed chips for $24.98 a ton.
Bids were received from three companies.
Rock will be added to a one-mile stretch of Goldfinch Road between 290th and 300th Roads in preparation for the application of three layers of chip and seal, allowing for the expansion of Grimm’s Gardens and Midwest Irrigation located at 2991 Goldfinch Road.
The project is being funded by a nearly $128,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce.
The two businesses will invest a combined total of nearly $64,000 in working capital and create four new full-time jobs.
