Fairview Woman Sentenced to Prison
03/25/2013

( KNZA )-A Fairview woman convicted of pouring gasoline on her 7-year-old son’s bed last April while he slept has been sentenced to nearly 7 ½ years in prison.

Tammy Thomas was sentenced Monday afternoon to 89 months in prison on a charge of aggravated arson and to 6 months in prison on a charge of aggravated endangerment of a child.   District Judge Judge Patton ordered the sentences to be served at the same time, and gave Thomas credit for 355 days served in jail.

As part of a plea agreement, Thomas entered an Alford guilty plea earlier this month to the charges which were contained in an amended complaint.  She had originally been charged with attempted first-degree murder.

Under an Alford plea, a defendant maintains their innocence but acknowledges the prosecution could likely prove the charges.

Authorities say Thomas poured gasoline on the bottom bunk of her son’s bed early April 4th while he slept in the top bunk.  The gasoline wasn’t ignited and no one was injured.
