Humboldt Residents Urged to Clean Up Properties
04/04/2013

(KTNC) - Now that the Humboldt City Council has approved moving forward with a Nuisance Abatement Program this spring, community residents are being urged to clean up nuisance areas in town.
Last month, the City Council finalized details of a contract with the Southeast Nebraska Development District to have SENDD be the city’s nuisance officer.
Nuisance enforcement will begin in the next few weeks.  An assessment will be conducted and letters will be sent to residents with properties that need to be cleaned.  Those property owners and tenants will be given time to clean their property before action is taken to the City Council.  Properties that are not cleaned will be declared a nuisance.
Items that will be reviewed for compliance with the Nuisance Code include: unlicensed vehicles, including yard and boat trailers; vehicle parts and scrap metal; appliances; dead trees, branches and yard waste; trash and debris; and unsightly or dilapidated buildings.
In an effort to help with the clean up, a community clean up day is planned in Humboldt on Saturday, May 18th.
