(KAIR) -- An Atchison teen continues his road to recovery after a rollover injury accident last month.
John Shankman, a 17-year-old student at Maur Hill Mount Academy, was injured when a truck he was riding in the back of, rolled in Atchison’s Jackson Park.
He and four others in the bed were ejected. Shankman suffered serious injuries as a result.
He was in critical condition for a period of time, undergoing several surgeries, including one to treat head trauma which caused swelling in his brain.
Phil Baniewicz, President of the parochial school, visited Shankman earlier this week at KU Med Center and says Johnny’s making progress.

Baniewicz says the rest of the students involved in the accident have returned to school and frequently visit Shankman at the hospital.

The next step down the line for Shankman will be rehab and Baniewicz says Johnny’s parents are currently looking into facilities around the country to aid in his recovery.
