Seneca Getting New Street Sweeper
05/17/2013

( KMZA )-The city of Seneca will be getting a new street sweeper.

City Superintendent Brian Ruske Wednesday evening reviewed with the City Council bids received from two companies to replace the city’s current sweeper.

Following discussion, the council voted to allow Ruske to purchase one of two Elgin Pelican sweepers from Key Equipment and Supply Company of Kansas City after he calls other owners of the machines for a recommendation. The company submitted bids for a 74 horse power model for $151,970 with trade, and a 99 horse power model for $154,890 with trade.

Seller Equipment of Topeka had submitted the low bid in the amount of $151,225 with trade for a Global sweeper.

But Ruske recommended the city purchase one of the Elgin Pelican machines because that’s what the city currently has, and are use to running and working on.

The city had budgeted $185,000 for the purchase of a new street sweeper.

In other business, the council accepted the low bid from Mid-American Courtworks of Wichita for the construction of  basketball and tennis courts at Skoch Park on Community Drive at a cost of $115,540.

The concrete slab to house the courts will be 121 by 108 foot.

It was among two bids received.

The city was awarded a $30,000 grant through the STEP Foundation to help build the courts.

City crews will install lights for the courts.

City Administrator Matt Rehder informed the council that a May 28th start date has been set for the Branch Street extension project.
The project is to be completed by November 11th.
