Brown Co Commission Discusses Dispatching Contract
05/21/2013

( KNZA )-Brown County is seeking an increase in the amount the city of Hiawatha pays to the county for providing dispatch services.

Commissioner Steve Roberts Monday explained discussions held with the city regarding the contract between the two entities for dispatching services.

Currently, the city of Hiawatha is paying the county $55,500 a year for the county to provide dispatching services for the city.

That amount was increased a couple of years ago from the $38,000 a year the city had been paying since the contract was signed back in 1990.  It was found two years ago that the city was not paying the correct amount for dispatching, and the amount was to be increased incrementally.

Commissioners voted to stand by the contract, which requires the city of Hiawatha to pay the wages and benefits for 2 ½ employees in exchange for dispatch services.

In other business, commissioners voted to hire seasonal employee Jeremy Smith as a full-time employee for the District 1 road crew, effective May 26th

In addition, they voted to hire Mike Compton for seasonal work at the Noxious Weed Department, with cross-training at the transfer station, at a wage of $11.25 an hour
