(KTNC) - Another step has been taken towards building a new assisted living facility in Pawnee City. The City Council this week approved a zoning change for the area where the facility is to be built. The land had been zoned R-2, but after a public hearing Tuesday the council approved a motion to rezone the land to R-3, which is multi-family residential.
In other business during a fairly short meeting, the Pawnee City Council approved a request to continue membership in the Southeast Nebraska Development District for the next fiscal year, with membership dues of $1,575 and housing dues of $263.
The council approved a change to the fees at the city campground. Those who call the city after hours wanting to have electricity turned on at a campsite will have to pay $20. The old fee was $10. Campers are encouraged to call in advance to reserve space.
The council discussed the water tower and water rates. The city will have to paint the water tower – which will cost approximately 80-thousand dollars. Due to that, city officials say Pawnee City will likely increase its water rates at the start of the next fiscal year, October 1st. Water rates in Pawnee City haven’t been increased in seven years.
And, the property valuation increased on two of three city-owned properties. The 109 acres of grassland at the city’s well site saw its valuation increase from $128,745 to $146,830. Another 80 acres of grass and farmland increased from $86,435 to $92,040.
A small parcel of land the city owns in town decreased in valuation, from $7,610 to $7,435.
