Lower Gas Prices in Nebraska not Expected to Increase July 4th Travel Numbers
(KTNC) - For the past few months, Nebraska has seen gasoline prices well above the national average, up to 46-cents a gallon higher. Those prices have dropped more than 45-cents a gallon over the past month.
Gail Weinholzer at Triple-A Nebraska says two refineries that supplied the Midwest region had to be taken offline temporarily. (play cut :20 “national average.”)
Weinholzer predicts gas prices should stay generally where they are now, barring any disasters. (play cut :17 “coast region.”)
The lower gas prices are not expected to result in more people on the roads for the 4th of July holiday. Weinholzer says the national travel forecast predicts a drop of about one-percent from last year. (play cut :19 “weekend of it.”)
Gasoline is now selling for three-59 a gallon on average statewide, the same as the national average. In May, it was over four-dollars a gallon.
