Drier Weather Allowing Missouri Farmers to Catch Up
(KLZA) A week with plenty of dry weather helped Missouri farmers catch up on their planting, most of which is at least three weeks behind last year's pace but right at the five-year average.
A report Monday from the Missouri Agricultural Statistics Service shows 97 percent of the corn crop has emerged, one day ahead of normal but a month behind last year's figure. Fifty-four percent of the corn is rated in good or excellent condition.
Soybean planting throughout Missouri was 84 percent complete and 67 percent had emerged.
The statistics service says 96 percent of subsoil moisture was either adequate or surplus, while 74 percent of pastures were in either good or excellent condition.
Most hay and stock water supplies also were in good shape.
