(KAIR)--Atchison County Sheriff Jack Laurie is looking ahead to 2014, with his plans outlined, in part, in last week's budget request made to the Atchison County Commission.
Totaling one-million-631-thousand and fifty-seven dollars, Laurie says that's an increase of $30,000 from the current fiscal year, with the additional funds needed to add a new deputy to his department.
Laurie is also working to improve the vehicles that make up the department's fleet, looking to replace three of the most questionable ones. However, Laurie says the cost of the vehicles had previously been budgeted, meaning they won't lead to any increase in his request.
The Commission has not yet made any final decisions on the requests that have come before them, but the budget must be finalized, and set for publication, by August 15th.
