( KMZA )--A multiple highway resurfacing project has begun in Marshall County.
On Tuesday, the Kansas Department of Transportation says eastbound and westbound K-9 was reduced to one lane for both directions as crews began work resurfacing a 12-mile stretch of the highway from the U.S. 77 junction to the west city limits of Frankfort
Work will place during daylights hour, Monday through Saturday, with some occasional Saturday work.
Traffic will be directed through the project work zone by a pilot car operation.
Drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes maximum and are encouraged to use alternate routes, if possible.
Once work is completed on K-9, KDOT says a 10-mile stretch of K-87 will be resurfaced from the community of Vliets to the U.S. 36 junction, and then a 14-mile stretch of K-99 from the north K-16 junction to the south city limits of Frankfort.
Bettis Asphalt Construction Company of Topeka is the primary contractor on the more than three million dollar project, which is scheduled for completion in early October, weather permitting.
