07/19/2013

(KLZA) The Richardson County Commission has received information on a preliminary design for a new 24-bed jail and law enforcement facility.

Representatives of the Omaha-based architectual firm Prochaska & Associates presented the information to commissioners Tuesday.

Proposed is a 13,397 square foot facility which would include an area roughly 8,528 feet for cells and miscellaneous space including a booking area, finger print area and various storage.

Another 3,219 feet is proposed for law enforcement functions including an entrance lobby, public restrooms and offices for Sheriff’s Department personnel, interview rooms and evidence storage.

The company is expected to return in August to submit actual designs for the facility to which, if approved, would be constructed at the armory on the west edge of Falls City.  Some costs estimates for the facility are also expected to be submitted at that time.

The Board also voted to authorize Dennis J. Lyon Architects to proceed with the development of bid specifications and documents for the restoration of  designated areas at the Richardson County Courthouse.
