Seneca Council Approves Proposed 2014 Budget For Publication
07/19/2013

( KMZA )-The Seneca City Council has approved for publication a proposed 2014 budget of nearly $8.6 million that calls for the property tax levy to remain at about the same rate.

The council took the action Wednesday evening

The proposed budget contains an estimated tax rate of 32.3 mills, which is  to generate more than $619,000.

City Administrator Matt Rehder says they were able to hold the mill levy at about the same rate as this year due to a more than $950,000 increase in the city’s assessed valuation.   He says that means a mill will raise an additional $1,000.

The council will consider adoption of the 2014 budget following a public hearing at their August 7th meeting.

After an executive session, the council voted to allow Assistant City Clerk Anna Ruske permission to move from full-time to part-time.  Effective August 1st, Ruske will work 20 to 30 hours a week.  She will lose her full-time benefits.

The council also approved the purchase of a 2013 Grasshopper 227 mower from Bruna Implement in Seneca for $12,165 with the trade-in of a 2009 Dixon Grizzly mower. City Superintendent Brian Ruske said the current mower has more than 700 hours and he wanted to replace it before it lost trade-in value.
