(KNZA)--A traffic stop, leading to the alleged discovery of drugs, sends an Atchison man and his Colorado passenger to jail.

Police Chief Mike Wilson says it happened around 12:45 Friday morning, after 32-year-old Shawn Lanter was stopped for speeding in the 1300 block of North 6th Street.

Wilson says it was during the stop that alleged methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were discovered, leading to the arrest of Lanter on related charges.

A passenger, Joseph Thomas of Commerce City, Colorado was also arrested, taken into custody on a Jackson County warrant for failure to appear.

While Lanter and Thomas were both booked into the Atchison County Jail, a third passenger was not arrested.
