No Foul Play In Death of Former Atchison Man

(KAIR)--Preliminary autopsy reports confirm what officials said from the start, with foul play ruled out in the death of a former Atchison man.

The body of Dwight Sexton was discovered on the morning of July 17th in the Kansas River, northwest of the Kansas University Boat House.

Sexton had been living in the Lawrence area for sometime, and had become a familiar face, along with his dog, Gabby, in the city's downtown business district.

According to Lieutenant Steve Lewis, of the Douglas County Sheriff's Department, the autopsy was conducted last week, with the preliminary findings now made public, while toxicology test results are not yet completed.

Indications point to drowning as the cause of death, but only the complete autopsy will confirm that suspicion. However, Lewis says it's known that Sexton was not a victim of homicide.

Sexton was remembered Tuesday during memorial services held in Atchison.

Among his survivors are his mother, Mary Sexton, who resides in Atchison, as well as a son, Brent, who lives in Omaha, and three brothers.
