( KNZA )--On Tuesday, August 6th, neighborhoods throughout Hiawatha are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 30th Annual National “Night Out” crime and drug prevention event.
For the 19th year, the Hiawatha Police Department will sponsor the event. Agencies will set up displays in the Schuneman Addition at the Fisher Center on East Iowa Street from 6 to 8 that evening—including the Brown County Sheriff’s Department, Squad 48, Town and Country EMS, Union Pacific Railroad and Hiawatha Fire Department.
Hot dogs, chips and soda will be provided free of charge. In addition, a movie and pool party will be held at the Hiawatha Aquatic Park from 8 to 10 that evening at no charge.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
