Gym Size Set For Proposed Atchison Co School
08/02/2013

(KAIR)--Finding the right size for the district's needs.

That was a key goal, leading up to the now approved bond resolution for USD 377, meaning voters, in the Atchison County Community Schools' district, in November, will be asked to say yes or no to a $17.5 million bond issue.

Funding will go towards a new facility, primarily for the purpose of housing preschool through 6th grade students.  However, some 7th and 8th grade classes can also be conducted in the building, planned to be built on the east side of the junior senior high in Effingham.

One aspect the project will not include, based on cost, is the ability to host sub-state basketball tournaments.

With the 2,000 seat requirement deemed too large and too costly, the current plans call for a gymnasium including 800 to 1,500 seats, depending on future bids received for the construction.

Voters on November 5th will be asked to determine the fate of the bond issue during a planned special election.
