A local educator has received a unique distinction following more than four decades of service to art students at Atchison Public Schools.
This Friday, August 9th, has been proclaimed “Max King Day” in Atchison.
Mayor Dave Butler issued the proclamation during Monday’s city commission meeting.
King worked in the USD 409 school district for 44 years, developing the talents of students in drawing, painting, sculpture, pottery, and language arts.
A lifetime retrospective of his work will be on display beginning later this week at the Muchnic Art Gallery, located at 704 North 4th Street in Atchison.
The gallery will host a special show opening on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., and the exhibit will run through September 29th.
