Hiawatha Code Enforcement Officer Selected
08/07/2013

(KNZA)--A former Hiawatha Police Chief, and current city patrol officer, now becomes the city’s Code Enforcement Officer.

That follows approval granted by the City Commission Monday regarding the new role for Evans Woehleke.

Current Chief of Police John Defore outlined the proposed change during the session, saying that it will be required that Woehleke dress in police uniform when performing code enforcement duties, reinforcing the fact that the job description falls under the police department.

He will be responsible for both overseeing permits and building inspections

The Commission granted approval to the plan, effectively filling the gap created by the past resignation of Malcolm Grier, who accepted a code enforcement job in the City of Atchison.
