(KAIR)--A 15-year-old Atchison teen is in custody facing a possible rape charge following his Tuesday evening arrest.
“Shortly before 8:00 on Tuesday evening, we were notified to respond to a residence where a 13-year-old female victim had reported to her guardian, that a sexual assault had occurred in a park area in the 10 hundred block of North 8th Street,” says Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson. “The investigation ensued, and within several hours we had a 15-year-old male suspect in custody.”
Wilson says the suspect, whose name is not being released, has been booked on a charge of rape. Wilson says the case has been forwarded to the County Attorney’s Office, where formal charges are pending. He adds that the suspect is known to the reported victim.
