(KTNC) - Nebraska Students scored higher on standardized tests last year.
State education officials report that 77-percent of students who took the tests met or exceeded state reading standards, compared to 69-percent three years ago.
Seventy percent scored proficient in science and 69-percent were proficient in math. Fourth grade students taking the new writing test scored 68-percent proficient. (play audio :11 “not improving.”)
That’s State Deputy Education Commissioner Scott Swisher, who says the break down by student population will be released late next month. Now that scores have been released, Swisher says the analysis will begin. (play audio :15 “student’s scores.”)
Swisher says the state test results give only a broad outline of how well students are performing. (play audio :21 “their schools.”)
More than 155-thousand students took the tests, mostly elementary to 8th grade students, as well as high school juniors. Swisher says state education officials are pleased with the overall improvement in scores.
