(KAIR)--Five injured in a single vehicle rollover crash in Atchison County Sunday night, and investigators say alcohol likely played a role.
Sheriff Jack Laurie says it happened around 10:30, at the interesection of Edwards Road and 218th Road, when the 48-year-old driver, John Thomas, Jr. was northbound on Edwards, and was unable to negotiate the curve. The Dodge Neon he was driving slid into the north ditch and overturned.
Thomas, of Horton, was flown from the scene to the University of Kansas Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
A passenger, 65-year-old Horton resident William Thomas, was ejected during the wreck and flown for treatment at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Saint Joseph.
Three other passengers, 31-year-old Julian Elizondo, Jr., of Atchison, 48-year-old Tanya Thomas and 27-year-old Lindsey Wabaunsee, both of Horton, were all taken by ambulance to the Horton Community Hospital for treatment.
Laurie says that alcohol is believed to have contributed to the wreck, with numerous open containers seized from the scene. Additionally, he says Thomas was driving on a suspended license.
The investigation is ongoing.
