Local Lakes Remain Blue-Green Algae Threats
08/23/2013

( MSC News )--There’s no change in the status for three area lakes remaining affected by potentially harmful blue-green algae.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment said Thursday that the Hiawatha City Lake and Atchison’s Warnock Lake both remain under a warning status.
That means high levels of toxic blue-green algae have been detected, and direct contact with the water is prohibited.
Meanwhile, the Atchison County Park Lake remains under a blue-green algae advisory.
Water activities like boating and fishing may be safe, but direct contact with the water is strongly discouraged for people, pets and livestock.
In both the warning and advisory status, fish can still be eaten from the lake, but they should be thoroughly cleaned and only the fillet portion consumed.
