Committee: Buchanan Co Should Run Ambulance
08/23/2013

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) - A committee is recommending that Buchanan County run the county's ambulance service after it is dropped by a medical center next year.

The CARE Committee made the recommendation Thursday on the future of the ambulance service after Heartland Regional Medical Center stops operating it next July 1.

The committee said the proposal would allow the county to continue ambulance service with the same personnel.

The St. Joseph News-Press reports the service would be paid for through a county sales tax, but the amount of the tax hasn't been determined.

The proposed tax rate must be decided by Tuesday in order to be placed before voters in November.
