( KNZA )--A Doniphan County commissioner won’t seek re-election next year.
1st District Commissioner David Van Laar, of rural Denton, informed his fellow commissioners this week that he has accepted a new role, as a federal employee.
According to requirements of the Hatch Act, Van Laar will be prohibited from being a candidate in a partisan election. He will fill out the remainder of his term, but will not be allowed to seek election in the fall of 2014 to another term.
Van Laar has been serving as a “ contract” military analyst at Fort Leavenworth. He will continue in the analyst role, but in the new capacity as an employee in the executive branch of government.
Van Laar has served as a commissioner since October 2008.
