(KAIR)--A much discussed new position in the City of Atchison has now been filled with the hiring of a Downtown Coordinator to work within the Community Development Department.
City of Atchison Community Development Director Stefanie Leif says Susan Turnbull has been selected for the job.
Turnbull is well known in the Atchison business community, founding and operating the downtown Marigold Bakery for over 13 years and is the current part-time director of the Gateway to Kansas Shops, on Atchison's downtown mall, where she oversees marketing and advertising.
A panel comprised of City Staff, Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce, and local business representation interviewed a broad cross-section of highly qualified candidates during the hiring process. Leif says a strong pool of candidates applied for the job, with nearly ten interviewed, prior to narrowing the field to three, with Turnbull ultimately selected.
The Downtown Coordinator position is part time, with Turnbull hired at $13.00 an hour, capped at one-thousand hours annually.
Her job description includes working with downtown business owners and operators, while planning numerous small special downtown events, and to assist the Community Development Director with retail business recruitment and retention in the city's downtown.
