( KMZA )--Corning-based Nemaha County Fire District #2 has received approval of their pre-application for a grant to build a new fire station.
The next step in the process will be a site visit in which representatives from the Kansas Department of Commerce will come to Corning to explain how the grant through the KAN-STEP program works and determine whether the community is capable of providing the sweat equity for the project.
The grant, with a maximum award of $300,000, requires the use of volunteers to match the grant funds.
The fire department is encouraging residents to attend a meeting Wednesday evening, September 4th at the Corning Community Center at 7:30 to show their support.
