(KLZA) -- A large crowd gathered on the south edge of Falls City Thursday evening for the grand opening of the Consolidated Grain and Barge grain handling facility that has been under construction since January.
Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman was on hand to thank CGB for locating their first facility in Nebraska in Falls City, noting he hopes the company will add more facilities in the state in the future.
Falls City EDGE Executive Director Beckie Cromer called the CGB facility a great thing for Falls City. She said around 20 local companies had a part in constructing the facility. She said CGB will have a long term impact on the local economy.
First District State Senator Dan Watermeier congratulated Falls City on a job well done in economic development and welcomed CGB to “The Good Life.”
Greg Boeck, Vice President of Grain for CGB said the push from Falls City helped them decide to locate the facility in Falls City. He said the help from EDGE kept bringing the company back to Falls City.
Boeck also indicated the company is interested in expanding their interests in Nebraska in the future.
Boeck concluded with a message to the producers that the CGB facility was built with them in mind. He noted the facility was built for speed with grain pits capable of holding 2,000 bushels of grain which will allow two semi’s to unload at once meaning farmers can get back in the combine and not be sitting in a truck in line.
The CGB facility plans to begin accepting grain from farmers on September 16th.
