Contract Ratified with Hiawatha Teachers
09/10/2013

(KNZA)--The Hiawatha Board of Education has ratified a negotiated agreement with the Hiawatha Teachers Association for the 2013-2014 school year.

The action followed a closed-door session Monday evening.

Under the contract, Superintendent Penny Hargrove says teachers will receive an average salary increase of about 1.72 percent.  Administrators and classified staff had received a similar increase.  Hargrove said they were not able to give teachers a larger increase due to a tight budget.

Teachers have approved the contract.  Since the start of the new school year, teachers had been working under the 2012-2013 contract.
