(KLZA) -- With fall harvest about to get into high gear it is a good time for some annual safety reminders.
Farm machinery operators are reminded to stay alert where field and farmstead access roads cross train tracks. Farm-rail crossing rarely have warning lights, bells, gates or signs.
Tom Hillyard, volunteer with the Operation Lifesaver Program notes that trains travel at 55 miles per hour in many areas and with the weight they carry, a train can’t make a quick stop. At 55 miles an hour, it takes a mile of track to get a train stopped.
Operation Lifesaver programs can be presented to schools and other organizations as well. Hillyard says if you would like a presentation to your school or organization to just give him a call at 402-883-0224. The presentations are free and take approximately 30 minutes.
