Rural Nemaha Co Neb Man Killed in Oklahoma Accident

(KLZA) -- 46 year old rural Nemaha County, Nebraska resident Danny Lundy Jr. died early Saturday morning near Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Lundy was struck by a Logan County, Oklahoma Deputy Sheriff on Interstate 35 around 12:30 a-m Saturday.

According to an initial report from the Oklahoma State Patrol Danny Lundy Jr. had exited his vehicle to search for an item that had fallen from his pickup, he crossed the roadway at which time a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria patrol unit, driven by Deputy Sheriff Mark Hanneman, age 48 struck him.

The report indicates Lundy died at the scene of the accident from massive injuries.

Deputy Hanneman was transported to a hospital and reportedly suffered broken ribs and facial lacerations from broken glass.

The initial report lists the cause of the collision as pedestrian action.  

The investigation into the accident is ongoing. A spokesperson with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said it could be 3-4 weeks before the final accident report is completed.

Deputy Sheriff, Mark Hanneman was reportedly responding to multiple reports of a vehicle facing south in the northbound lanes of the interstate 

It has been reported that Lundy’s pickup was in the northbound lane facing south at the time of the impact but Lundy family members disputed those reports when contact by our news department.

Danny Lundy Jr. was in Oklahoma helping his daughter Heather move back to Nebraska.  She was riding in the pickup with her father. Her twin sister,  mother and step-father were in a second vehicle at the time of the incident.
