(KMZA)--A Sabetha woman convicted of stealing more than $36,000 from former employer Prairie Hills USD 113 has been placed on probation.
Megan Barnes was sentenced last week in Nemaha County District Court to one year in prison on a charge of felony theft by deception. However, the sentence was suspended and she was placed on supervised probation for 24 months.
Barnes has made restitution to the district.
She pleaded no contest to the charge in August. In exchange for the plea, two other felony charges, making false information and forgery, were dismissed.
Barnes was employed as the school district’s accounting supervisor at the time of the crime, which according to court documents occurred between November 1st of last year and May 7th of this year.
Barnes was charged in June following an investigation by the Sabetha Police Department.
