(KNZA)--A federal grant of just over $21,000 is making technology upgrades possible in the South Brown County Schools. Known as a Small Rural School Achievement grant, Doctor Steve Davies, Superintentendent for USD 430, says the district received around the same amount last year.
At that time, six smart boards were purchased for the elementary school, with an additional six to be purchased with $10,000 of the latest award.
Smart boards are computerized interactive whiteboard devices that replace chalkboards in the classrooms.
Davies says the expenditure of the additional funds, totaling just over $11,000, is under consideration. While it's expected to be spent on digital tablets for student use, it remains unclear which brand, Apple or Microsoft, will be selected.
With the pros and cons of the two models still being researched, Davies says a decision is expected to be made in the near future.
