(KMZA)--A new wind farm with 30 turbines will be built in northeast Marshall County next year.
Preliminary work has begun, and new access roads will be built this fall between Beattie and Summerfield for the wind farm being constructed by DeSoto, Iowa-based RPM Access.
The Marysville Advocate reports representatives of the company met with the Marshall County Commission this week to discuss an agreement on road maintenance and payment in lieu of taxes for the wind farm.
Because wind farms are exempt from property taxes in Kansas, the commission agreed with the developer on a payment in lieu of taxes to the county of just over $377,000 during the initial year, and $300,000 every year after that for the next nine years.
The wind farm, which will cover about 73-hundred acres, will generate 75 megawatts. Thirty-two landowners will receive payment for use of their land.
