(KAIR)--The rising cost of health care is a concern for everyone, and Atchison city employees are not exception. Atchison city manager Trey Cocking addressed the city commissioners during their meeting Monday evening, and told them that one major concern has arisen related to the city's health insurance. He says they are facing an increased cost of 7.5% mainly due to obamacare. Cocking says this is the first time in a few years they have faced this kind of increase.
Cocking also explained to the commissioners how the various fees were broken down. What it amounted to was about 5 and a half to 6 percent increase in fees, along with a small 1 and a half to 2 percent increase that would have happened without the introduction of obamacare.
In other business, the commission voted 3-2 to authorize funding of up to $31,000 to help the Atchison Heritage Conference Center maintain their everyday operations, since income has been slow due to some recent construction.
