New Sculpture at Falls City Library
11/05/2013

(KTNC) - If you’ve driven by the Falls City Library recently, you may have noticed something new gracing the northeast lawn of the building.
A sculpture by San Francisco artist Fletcher Benton, titled "Spring It with Triangle and L," was installed recently outside the library.  It is on loan to the Falls City Library from the Flatwater Art Foundation in Brownville.
Stalder Gallery curator Christina Wertenberger explained during a gallery talk last week that the Benton gave the sculpture to the Flatwater Art Gallery in Brownville, but Flatwater curator George Neubert presently does not have a place for it, so he loaned the sculpture to the Falls City gallery for the next six months.
Wertenberger credits Rita Seid with arranging to have the sculpture installed on short notice. She thanked the City Council and Library Board for allowing the installation and the Library and Community Foundation for funding the installation.
Steve Jensen of Lincoln, who moves sculptures for a living, volunteered his time to move the sculpture to Falls City.  John Roland of Tri-State Electric donated his time to install the lighting and helped to install the sculpture, and Metzger Construction poured the concrete pad.
Wertenberger hopes that concrete pad will be able to hold other sculptures and public art displays in the future after the present sculpture is moved to its permanent home in Brownville.
