(KAIR)--The decision on whether or not to widen a certain bridge in Atchison county was a focus of discussion Tuesday at a meeting of the Atchison County Commission.
A pair of county residents came before the commissioners asking that the bridge on 214th and Clay, as well as the road leading up to it be widened. The bridge is currently 16 feet wide, but the combine they need to cross it with is 18 feet wide.
Commissioner Mike Bodenhausen stated that it may be a good idea to look at how many other bridges in the county may need widening, since if they do one, they should consider doing others, and most would just need tubes replaced, and this could be done at a lower cost.
In other business, Special Project Manager Chase Brunick came before the Commission to give a report on the progress of the county's solid waste project. He says that everything should be set up and ready to go by next week at the new solid waste site. The commission discussed the possibility of putting fences around the property, and possibly the scales as well.
Bodenhausen also gave notice that the county will be holding interviews for solid waste manager next week.
