(KNZA)--Concealed handguns will be allowed inside Horton City Hall after the first of the year.
That decision came Monday when Horton City Commissioners chose to take no action regarding the state law that mandates concealed carry be allowed unless what is deemed to be “adequate security” is put in place. However, the cost to do that, as well as the prohibition against designating just the City Hall municipal courtroom off limits to concealed carry, led the commission to take no action.
The decision had to be made prior to January 1st in order to comply with the state law.
Meanwhile, the Commission decided to bring extra Christmas joy to the city's staff, approving bonuses for the employees.
Part time staff will receive a bonus of $150, while those who work full time will earn $300.
No tax dollars will be used for the expenditure, totaling over $8,000. Instead, the monies will be taken from funds generated through the electric department.
