(KAIR)--Atchison police were called to the scene of a domestic disturbance at the 500 block of Park around 10:30 Saturday night. Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson says that when officers arrived, they found the 28-year old female victim to be in a very distressed state. She told police that there had been damage to the property, as well as being the victim of battery. 27-year old Zachary Harding of Atchison was taken into custody at the scene as a result of this report.
Harding allegedly pounded the door of the room where the victim was hiding and, upon gaining entry allegedly struck her on the head with his fist.
He was transported to the Atchison County Jail where he faces charges of domestic battery and criminal damage to property.
