(KNZA)--Members of the Brown County Republican precinct committee during a convention Sunday evening selected a new 1st District county commissioner.

Richard Tesoriero was elected on a 6-4 secret ballot vote by the 10 precinct commmittee members eligible to vote at the convention to fill the vacancy created by the recent resignation of Richard Lehmkuhl.

The other nominee was Dennis Pyle.

Each nominee was given an opportunity to speak about their background and why they believed they would make a good county commissioner. They then took questions from the twenty-one precinct committee members present, along with the public.

Tesoriero spoke about his experience as a businessman, and Pyle about his experience in the Kansas Legislature.

Tesoriero's name will now be forwarded to Governor Kelly, who will make the official appointment.

He will fill a term expiring in January 2027. The position will be up for election in November 2026.
