Atchison in need of new Municipal Court Judge
11/04/2025

(KAIR)--Atchison's Municipal Court is in need of a new judge.

That follows longtime Judge Patrick Henderson being named as the latest Judge to serve the 1st Judicial District of Kansas, including Atchison and Leavenworth counties, with Henderson appointed to the role in October by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, selected from the list of candidates vying for the then open seat.

The City of Atchison, in a release acknowledging the need to fill Henderson's former role, says "the City is proud of Judge Henderson- many years of service and we wish him well in this new role!"

The release asks that any attorneys, admitted to practice law in Kansas, interested in filling the Municipal Court vacancy to submit a letter of interest. Those letters, along with any additional documentation, are to be sent to Atchison City Manager Mark Westhoff at Atchison City Hall, 515 Kansas Avenue, in Atchison.

The deadline to submit a letter of interest for consideration is the close of business Monday, November 10.
