In front of a Royal Courts crowd Friday night, Atchison High hosted league foe Sumner Academy and split the twin-bill.
The first game saw the Lady Red sprint to a 12 point lead after one quarter only to have Sumner fight back for a lead at the half. However, on the strength of Bank of Atchison "Player of the Game" Madison Sanders' 22 point performance, AHS took a 60-49 win and placed themselves in a virtual tie for the top spot in the KCAL.
The nightcap saw the Redmen face the defending 2-time 4A State Champions, and Sumner was as good as billed winning 83-32. Bank of Atchison "Player of the Game' Clifford Johnson connected on three second-half treys and shared scoring honors with Tanner Huntington with 9 points on the night. For Sumner it was Bennie Parker (who has inked a D1 letter-of-intent) leading the way with 16 points.
