(KTNC) - The Missouri River is well below flood stage, but it’s expected to rise in the next few days. That has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Flood Warning for later this week.
The warning begins Wednesday afternoon and continues until Sunday morning, or until the warning is cancelled, and is for the Missouri River at Nebraska City, Brownville, and Rulo. The National Weather Service says moderate flooding is expected at those locations.
At Rulo, the river stage was at 11.1-feet – nearly six-feet below the 17-foot flood stage – at 9:30 Monday evening. The forecast calls for the river to reach flood stage by Wednesday afternoon and rise to 21-and-a-half feet by early Friday morning before falling below flood stage again by Sunday morning.
The Missouri River at Nebraska City, where the flood stage is 18-feet, was at 10.6-feet Monday evening. The forecast is for the river at Nebraska City to rise to 21.7-feet by early Thursday afternoon and fall below flood stage by Sunday evening.
